This year sees the launch of Australian Heavy Vehicle Industry (AHVI) Week as the umbrella event encompassing the Brisbane Truck Show and the many significant complementary events, activities and activations, both within the event and across the city.

AHVI Week focuses on promoting the heavy vehicle industry’s values around a set of key themes: safety, innovation, sustainability, careers, knowledge and community.

One of its goals it to foster broader community awareness about the heavy vehicle industry’s vital role and positive impact within the community.

Through a series of external activations by Brisbane Truck Show exhibitors and an exciting new activation at South Bank Parklands, that aspiration is coming to life.

With the support of Brisbane Marketing and South Bank Corporation, Little Stanley Street and Stanley Street Plaza will be closed to traffic to showcase vehicles.

The area has been temporarily renamed as the South Bank Roadhouse, ensuring visitors receive the warmest of welcomes to Brisbane, with a festival atmosphere amongst the great dining and entertainment.

The opportunity to showcase our industry in this spectacular location provides the perfect opportunity to share the industry’s story with the community in a tangible and lasting way.

Show organiser Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) says it is extremely grateful to the Queensland Government and the City of Brisbane for coming on board to enable this initiative to come to life.

“They understand that the Brisbane Truck Show is a vital Queensland business, tourism and cultural asset, recognised internationally amongst the world’s leading industry business events,” HVIA CEO Todd Hacking says.

“The intent behind AHVI Week supports the Government’s agenda across a wide range of strategic priorities including promoting Queensland as a major hub for Australia’s vibrant and innovative heavy vehicle manufacturing industry.

“Brisbane is being marketed as a great place to do business, including setting up advanced manufacturing facilities.”

The recent launch of Volvo Group Australia’s new national headquarters and adjacent Volvo Commercial Vehicles flagship dealership is just one prime example of the industry’s health, and willingness to invest in advanced facilities.

“The Queensland Government partnership also utilises the Brisbane Truck Show to promote workplace safety across many sectors including manufacturing, service centres, construction, agriculture and road transport.”

AHVI Week encompasses a full schedule of events within the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) including the NatRoad Conference in the lead-up to the show, the new Jobs Hub and Technology and Innovation Centre, the HVIA National Apprentice Challenge, numerous industry group meetings and study tours, and the KPMG Insights Centre ‘better business’ seminar series.

Away from the BCEC, there will be full hotels all across Brisbane; there will be dealer conferences; association meetings; large and small customer dinners; and events held across Brisbane every night before and during the Brisbane Truck Show.

There will be on-road events at the Mount Cotton Driver Training Centre where truck and trailer combinations can demonstrate their capacity and capability under full load.

There will also be manufacturing factory tours for the Minister and an impressively large delegation from New Zealand.

Kicking it off will be the official opening of the Brisbane Truck Show with a ticketed breakfast featuring special guest, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, plus KPMG’s Brendan Richards outlining a comprehensive study currently being undertaken to map the full scope of the heavy vehicle industry and its role in the Australian economy.

Australian Heavy Vehicle Industry Week: a celebration of Australia’s thriving and robust local industry – which directly employs more than 36,000 people and manufactures, services and repairs some of the world’s most efficient, safe, innovative and technologically advanced vehicles.
