Melbourne event will feature a number of presentations ranging from safety topics to industry information

Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) has begun detailing its program for the ComVec 2016 industry event in July, with sessions ranging from Chain of Responsibility (CoR) to safety system topics.

One of those speaking at the event will be Wabco application engineering manager Tony Cheyne, who will take attendees through the full functionality of systems including ABS, EBS, Lane Assist and Stability Control.

Cheyne says the presentation will help industry members understand the huge range of acronyms regularly spoken by vehicle manufacturers and their associated functionalities.

“This information is, I believe, relevant industry-wide to ensure that systems which can assist drivers in day-to-day operation, and/or improve safety, are understood, and correctly specified when relevant,” Cheyne says.

Cheyne will be one of many presenting at the two-day ComVec 2016 conference in Melbourne, joined by information sessions on topics such as the latest design changes and newest truck models on the market, the effects of suspension design on vehicle stability and tracking, semi-trailer aerodynamics, engineering applications for adhesives, and more.

The HVIA conference will also detail changes to the National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual and changes to the VSB6 code of practice for heavy-vehicle modifications.

When it comes to CoR, National Transport Commission (NTC) manager legislative policy – heavy vehicle compliance Anna Beesley will present on what CoR is and who it applies to, why it is important, why the law is changing, what the changes are, and how you may be impacted.

The NTC has recently completed two reviews, one on CoR and the other on heavy vehicle roadworthiness, that have both been separately approved by ministers last year and will be combined into new Heavy Vehicle National Law amendments.

As the two recommendations will be addressed in the new laws, attendees will be educated on the changes.

ComVec runs July 19-20 at the Melbourne Park Convention Centre.
