Dave Handley’s International Ute and the ‘lucky door prize’.

Although the Sydney Classic and Antique Truck Show is a trophy-free environment, Dave Handley’s name was pulled out of the barrel for the show’s lucky draw prize. Or more to the point, it was Dave’s early 1950s International Ute.
Dave says he spent three years rebuilding the American-based ute, which boasts an Australian-made body.
“One thing about utes, they all have the same amount of damage on them,” he says.
Dave’s work on the International was complete and ready to shine for the very first Sydney Classic and Antique Truck Show in 2011.
He’s taken it to every show since, as well as taking it to the Clarendon Classic Rally and trailering it to the Golden Oldies Truck Show in Dubbo.
In his working life Dave owns and drives an 18 month-old MAN off-road truck with a fertiliser spread around the NSW Southern Highlands.
When it comes to leisure time, it’s old cars that attract his attention, an interest that was sparked by his grandfather.
“The International was a paddock hack,” Dave says. “And I’ve got a Holden station wagon as well.
“There’s always something to do.”
