A man has been charged with negligent driving after a collision earlier this month in NSW killed five people and left a truck driver in shock.

In a statement, NSW Police says a 67-year-old Picton man was charged after attending Camden Police Station yesterday and will appear in court on January 27 next year.

A police spokeswoman declined to detail the allegations, saying to do so might prejudice the case.

“That allegation will be made in court,” the spokeswoman says.

A 40-year-old man, two females in their 40s, a 23-year-old woman and a three-month-old child died when the car they were in collided with a semi-trailer about 8.15am on December 6 on Picton Road at Wilton.

The 56-year-old truck driver was taken to Campbelltown Hospital to be treated, while Picton Road was closed until 10pm that night.

The NSW road toll is currently 452 – 82 more deaths than this time last year.

The police need to charge someone over any incident involving a truck and the first person to have the finger pointed at is the truckie. If the truckie is to blame, then they should be charged but if it's not his fault, they need to lay charges eleswhere.
