A lobby group is pushing for a new freight corridor from NSW to Queensland in a move that will divert trucks from the Pacific Highway.

The Trans Regional Amalgamated Infrastructure Network (TRAIN) has proposed a corridor between Coffs Harbour and Bromelton.

If accepted, it will divert heavy vehicles from the Pacific Highway to the inland Summerland Way.

TRAIN submitted its proposal to Infrastructure Australia, the body established by the Rudd Government responsible for identifying priority infrastructure projects.

The group is also calling for funding for long-term projects it says will benefit freight carriers between northern NSW and South East Queensland.

This includes bypasses at Casino, Kyogle and Beaudesert and a road and rail link connecting Warwick to the proposed Bromelton inland port.

TRAIN is also recommending a cross border connection east of Mt Lindesay for heavy vehicles.
