Several roads projects in Melbourne’s south-east have been completed ahead of schedule as a part of a joint Victorian and federal $1.5 billion dollar initiative.
34 kilometres of new lanes have been built to reduce travel times and improve safety for more than 130,000 motorists and truck drivers along Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road.
In total this has delivered 41 new and upgraded intersections and more than 28 kilometres of shared use paths.
“The federal government is committed to keeping Victoria moving by investing in critical infrastructure projects like the South Eastern Roads works as part of the Suburban Roads Upgrades,” says federal transport minister Catherine King.
“Here in Victoria, we’re building more homes than any other state, while ensuring our fastest growing communities have less congested roads and better rail infrastructure to support more train services,” adds Victorian transport minister Danny Pearson.
New lanes have been added in each direction between Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway, while the Hallam North and Heatherton Road Upgrade and Lathams Road Upgrade added an extra lane in each direction between Heatherton Road and James Cook Drive.
Motorists trying to avoid the freeway have been bolstered with a new bridge which has been built over the Peninsula Link.
The South Eastern Roads Upgrade is part of the $3.1 billion Suburban Roads Upgrade which is upgrading 12 key roads across Melbourne’s north and south east.
