Allison welcomes Mighty milestone, appoints new sales director

Allison has sold more than 10,000 models of a popular light-duty truck with its transmission attached, with more on the way courtesy of a new sales director

Allison Transmission has revealed that it has sold more than 10,000 Allison-equipped Hyundai Mighty vehicles around the world since its integration four years ago while also announcing a new East Asia sales director.

The Mighty truck equipped with an Allison 1000 xFE™ fully automatic transmission may have first found its home in South Korea, but many are now operating in Australian fleets, contributing to the 10,000 milestone.

“Since the integration of the fully automatic option, Hyundai Australia has sold more than 800 Allison-equipped Mightys,” Hyundai Commercial Vehicles Australia general manager Daryl Thornton says.

“Sales have increased by around 200 per cent on 2018/2019 figures, and during the past two years more than 80 per cent of Mighty trucks have come with an Allison.

“Many of our customers are managing pickup and delivery jobs. Automatic vehicles are very comfortable to drive, even when the vehicle is stuck in city traffic with repetitive stop-and-go. Our customers are attracted to the Allison-equipped Mighty automatic truck because it is easy to drive, fuel efficient, productive and durable.”

The Hyundai Mighty is a 2.5 and 3.5 tonne light-duty truck, with its popularity rising due to its driving comfort, fuel economy and reliability. Allison has delivered more than 10,000 units of its fully automatic transmissions on the model since its launch in 2020.

“We are thrilled to see the tremendous success of Allison-equipped Hyundai Mighty vehicles. The rise in popularity of fully automatic transmissions in Asia-Pacific is a testament to the exceptional driving experience and unmatched performance that our transmissions offer,” Allison Transmission vice president EMEA, APAC & South America sales Heidi Schutte says.

“Allison’s commitment to driving comfort, fuel efficiency, reliability and productivity has resonated with customers, and we are proud to be at the forefront of this transformative shift in the industry.”

On top of this milestone, Allison has also assigned a new role, with Atak Talas moving from Türkiye to become the brand’s new East Asia sales director.

Talas first began his career as an R&D engineer at Daimler before joining Allison as an application engineer in 2011.

He was most recently the regional manager for Türkiye and the Middle East in 2018, executing growth strategies for Allison in the region.

As the East Asia sales director at Allison Transmission, Talas will lead sales teams in Japan, Korea and Australia, overseeing the development and implementation of sales strategies and reaching the company’s growth objectives in these markets.

Talas will be reporting into Allison Transmission’s Executive Director Asia Pacific Sales, Brian Geiselhart, and working to support Australasian Sales Manager, Robert Cavagnino.
