The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has previewed what it will bring to a transport productivity roundtable convened by federal ministers this week.
ATA CEO Mathew Munro will represent the ATA at the federal government’s transport productivity roundtable, organised by federal transport minister Catherine King to hear from senior transport leaders on productivity challenges and opportunities across the sector.
With the themes and outcomes of the roundtable set to inform the Economic Reform Roundtable in August, Munro says the ATA has proposed the sector-specific roundtable so that industry productivity issues can be advanced to the top level.

He has already provided a glimpse on what he’ll be looking to discuss at the roundtable this week.
“The government held a similar roundtable ahead of the 2022 Jobs and Skills Summit, and it was successful in highlighting the transport sector’s workforce issues,” he says.
“At the transport roundtable, the ATA will press for increased access for longer truck combinations, more support for people who want to train as drivers and carbon reduction measures.
“We will also take up the Treasurer’s call for budget positive submissions, with our plan to develop a road user charging system for electric vehicles.”
