Aussie Hay Runners prepares 106 truck convoy back to South Australia

Aussie Hay Runners’ biggest run yet will take off this long weekend to provide more than $400,000 worth of premium hay to SA farmers in need

Aussie Hay Runners (AHR) is following its successful initial run into South Australia late last year, this time preparing its biggest truck convoy yet to provide relief for drought stricken farmers in the state.

The past year has been tough for SA farmers, with many experiencing their driest year on record.

Over the public holiday weekend, AHR will lead 106 truckloads full of top quality, just baled, premium hay into South Australia to deliver them to farmers in need.

Just a few weeks ago, the tally for the run was at 35 truckloads, but support from the South Australian government and Heyfield Lions Club has allowed the run to now boost the truck convoy to 106 vehicles.

“We couldn’t be prouder working alongside the South Australian government and we wish to acknowledge and thank everyone who has been involved in making this run happen – and believe me, there’s been a lot involved,” AHR founder Linda Widdup says.

“As always, our reputation is of utmost importance to us and every single bale is top quality oaten or wheaten hay with the highest nutritional value possible, it’s so fresh, it’s just been baled!”

Over the weekend, the trucks will cover a total of 218,770kms, loaded with 3,630 bales of donated hay that is valued at more than $400,000.

ICYMI: Aussie Hay Runners help SA farmers with special truck convoy

The truckloads will reach more than 130 farmers, helping their families and their communities.

From today and tomorrow, the trucks will load and begin making their way to Bridgewater in Victoria. From there, the convoy will head off early Saturday morning via the Calder Highway, bound for Peterborough.

They’ll travel via Sea Lake, Mildura, Renmark, Morgan and Burra before arriving at the Peterborough Rodeo Grounds for a Farmers Meet and Greet dinner.

From there, the trucks will head in all directions, covering 11 local government areas including Wakefield, Adelaide Plans, Ceduna, Mid Murray and Mount Remarkable.

Widdup says AHR is extremely proud to help farmers and provide them a hand up, not a hand out.
