Recognition revamp to test BTS judges

Radio personality Ray Hadley promotes the show that has a new-look awards set-up this year

The Brisbane Truck Show Awards will undergo a revamp in 2017 by showcasing the past two year’s best design, engineering and manufacturing achievements, influenced by a culture of innovation and safety.

Presented by show organiser Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) with the support of Platinum Partner BP Australia, this year’s awards will be judged by a cohort of the country’s leading transport and equipment journalists and will highlight the industry’s latest product and service innovations.

Australia’s heavy vehicle industry directly employs more than 36,000 people and manufactures, services and repairs some of the world’s most efficient, safe, innovative and technologically advanced vehicles, including global brands Volvo, Mack, Kenworth and Iveco.

With nominations closing at the end of March, the judges will have a busy time assessing what could potentially be several hundred products and services, prior to the finalists being announced in mid-May.

The award categories include some that might be predictable, but highly sought-after, including best trailer and categories for best light-, medium- and heavy-duty truck.

Then there are a series of categories focused on innovation, including technology, components, equipment, services and bodies.

Then there are the real stars of the show; the awards that highlight the Australian heavy vehicle industry’s ingenuity; its willingness to push boundaries, paired with a demand for robustness of design, engineering and manufacture.

The best PBS innovation category will highlight initiatives to achieve greater productivity for specific tasks, with the application of an overarching requirement to exceed safety benchmarks.

Then the two glamour awards will go to the best Australian designed and engineered product and best Australian manufactured innovation.

Amongst the contenders will be many well-known brands; as well as many others that have quietly been creating ground-breaking products, technology and services that are changing the way the transport industry does business.

There are some stipulations to products being eligible for nomination, including their release date.

Products must have been released to market since the last Brisbane Truck Show in May 2015.

The criteria recognise that some products have been around for much longer but now include significant new features, upgrades or enhancements.

HVIA CEO Brett Wright says it will be exciting to see what products are put forward for consideration.

“The exciting thing is that every one of them will be on display at the 2017 Brisbane Truck Show,” he adds.

The 2017 Brisbane Truck Show Awards will be presented at a special cocktail event at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on the first evening of the show, Thursday, May 25, from 6.30-9pm.

Entry will be via a separate ticket. Ticket sales will be announced closer to the show.
