The New South Wales government has awarded the contract to construct a long awaited bypass worth $100 million.
The Pitt Town bypass has reached the milestone, with Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure awarded the contract to build the bypass and connect Pitt Town Road with Cattai Road. Two new roundabouts and a bridge across Hortons Creek will be featured, with construction work on the 950m bypass to now start in the coming months.
Currently, more than 10,000 vehicles use the existing road every day, with traffic volumes expected to increase by 40 per cent in coming years.
The new bypass will provide truck drivers with an alternative to driving through Pitt Down, which the NSW government says will “significantly reduce” the number of trucks heading through the town centre.

On top of this, it’s also set to reduce traffic times, particularly between Windsor and Wisemans Ferry, while improving safety for road users. The improvements are also set to enhance flood resilience for local residents.
NSW roads minister Jenny Aitchison says the long-awaited bypass is expected to open to traffic in late 2026.
“The Minns Labor government has listened to the community and community advocates like the Pitt Town Progress Association and federal member for Macquarie Susan Templeman to bring this project to commencement,” she says.
“With the selection of the successful contractor, residents will soon be able to look forward to less congestion through the village and having a safer alternative for travel between Pitt Town and Wisemans Ferry.
“As the north west of Sydney continues to grow, it is essential that local communities have reliable infrastructure. The bypass will connect travellers going through Pitt Town and serve residents in this fast growing region.”
