DAF starts series production of electric trucks in Europe

The two latest electric truck models to come from the Dutch OEM are set to hit European roads with their latest battery and driveline features

DAF Trucks has revealed it has started series production of two new fully electric trucks at its European headquarters in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

The fully electric DAF XD and XF Electric will soon begin to hit European roads, with new advanced drivelines included alongside an extremely aerodynamic design.

DAF says the new models can operate at more than 500 kilometres on a single battery charge.

The models feature the modern PACCAR EX-D1 and EX-D2 drive units, with 230hp and 480hp of power respectively being produced from the three-speed transmission units.

Tailor made modular battery packs range from two to five packs alongside a smart battery management system, while various body builder packages are available to suit the two chassis options.

A range of axle configurations and cab variants will be available, with the electric models being produced as 4×2 tractor units and rigids or 6×2 rigids with steered pusher or trailing axle.

For the cab side, a mixture of day, sleeper or sleeper high options are available.

In 2018, DAF Trucks was the first truck manufacturer in Europe to market a fully electric distribution truck. Since then, dozens of CF Electric tractors and rigids and LF Electric rigids have been put into service by leading transport operators in zero-emission applications across Europe. The trucks are used to supply supermarkets, shuttle containers and collect waste in urban areas.

With the New Generation DAF XD Electric and XF Electric, DAF says it is raising fully electric transport to a new level. Both innovative vehicle series are based on the multi-award-winning XD and XF series.
