The Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA) has revealed updates to Dubbo’s major livestock market is set to start with a new heavy vehicle wellbeing centre being created.
As part of Dubbo Regional Council’s proposed Hybrid Hub vision for the Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets (DRLM), which is one of the country’s top three livestock selling centre and a cornerstone of regional logistics, the first phase includes a Dubbo heavy vehicle wellbeing centre.
This site will include clean, separate amenities such as showers, toilets, kitchen, laundry and lounge, sealed and marked parking for up to 80 B-triples and an office space to provide integration with truck wash and biosecurity infrastructure.
With between 400 and 900 livestock truck trips moving through or around Dubbo each day, the site will be at a natural anchor point for drivers.

“In our discussions with council, ALRTA has strongly reinforced that livestock centres must consider rural transport as a whole,” the ALRTA says.
“Facilities need to cater for livestock carriers, bulk tippers, and mixed-freight operators alike. That means truck wash and treatment systems should be designed to handle multiple product types safely and efficiently.
“Livestock and grain sectors share the same roads, drivers and regional infrastructure – and it’s time our facilities reflect that integration. We have also asked them to consider vehicles will get longer.
“Some features they are considering for the operation of the yards and how they will modernise selling systems to present livestock for transport faster is impressive.”
The association says the discussion is about the future of all saleyards in Australia, not just Dubbo, with the ALRTA thankful it has been included in the discussion.
