Duplication bridge opens for Main South Road

Trucks are now able to use the newly opened bridge as the full interchange is set to open next year to traffic

The duplication of South Australia’s Main South Road has reached another milestone, with the new Aldinga Bridge opened to traffic this week.

From now onwards, the bridge is open to traffic and forms a key part of the new Aldinga Interchange.

The interchange realigns the junctions of Aldinga Beach Road and Aldinga Road, creating a safer and more efficient connection that also duplicates Main South Road between Aldinga and Sellicks.

Traffic is also travelling on parts of the newly constructed northbound carriageway on Main South Road.

On top of the interchange works, the next stage of Main South Road duplication will feature intersection upgrades at Hart and Colville roads, Norman and Rogers roads, Hahn and Cox roads and Sellicks Beach Road.

For the project, 98 per cent of it is being done by local companies, with further road safety upgrades provided.

The upgrades are being delivered as part of the $810.4 million Fleurieu Connections projected that is funded by both the state and federal governments.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place for traffic at the new Main South Road, Aldinga Road and Aldinga Beach Road intersection from now onwards.

These temporary signals will ensure a safer and more predictable flow of traffic until the full interchange opens in 2026, when Main South Road traffic will be sent under the new bridge.
