eCANTER sales boom locally and abroad

As industries begin to commit to sustainable transport solutions, Fuso’s eCanter is standing out as a top choice

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation has announced that deliveries of the new eCanter have begun with the sale of around 900 units to Yamato Transport.

Released in an effort to achieve a 48 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the eCanter has been highly acclaimed by customers in Japan and overseas.

As Japan’s first mass-produced electric light-duty truck, the eCanter has advanced active safety features that dominate the market.

With Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and pedestrian detection and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), the battery electric vehicle operates near-silently and produces zero local emissions.

The motor-driven truck is even suitable for delivery in residential areas early in the morning or late at night due to its little vibration or noise, contributing to a more comfortable environment for local communities.

The eCanter has found success in Australia, with Capral Aluminium making its first zero emission deliveries thanks to freight partner Goldstar Transport.

Using a Fuso eCanter, Goldstar delivered Capral’s lower-carbon primary aluminium option to local customer Bull Motor Bodies.

Goldstar Transport managing director, Sean Carren, says he is delighted to help customers along their emission reduction journeys.

“Goldstar Transport is really excited to have the zero emission Fuso eCanter as part of the fleet and work with companies like Capral who really want to make a difference,” he says.

Welcoming the first eCanter to its fleet late last year, Carren says, “We are committed to lead when it comes to zero emission transport and are working towards introducing larger zero emission trucks with our partners at Daimler Trucks, who share our vision.”

Bull Motor Bodies says it appreciates the opportunity to start receiving Capral Aluminium delivered by an electric truck.

“Sustainability is very much at the forefront at Bull Motor Bodies,” says the company’s general manager, Simon Rawnsley.

“A part of the tendering process for large corporate fleets around Australia is that fact that we are working towards net zero as an organisation, so it is important to have things like this as part of our supply chain.”

With deliveries beginning this month, this is the largest single order of the eCanter to date.

The eCanters delivered to Yamato Transport this time are a standard cab, S-battery van vehicle with three compartments for dry, refrigerated, and frozen functions.

The narrowest standard cab vehicle newly added to the lineup with the new eCanter model is more manoeuvrable, making it suitable for deliveries around town and the charging port is mounted at the rear of the vehicle for easy daily charging and loading or unloading of cargo.

Yutaka Nagao, president of Yamato Transport says they will continue to promote their efforts to realise a sustainable society in cooperation with partners and the local community.

“The Yamato Group is pursuing a variety of initiatives to realise virtually zero GHG emissions by 2050. The introduction of EVs is one of the most important initiatives to promote our sustainable management,” he says.
