BP lends support to new trucking TV show

BP says upcoming Outback Truckers TV series will show challenges of being a truck driver and importance of rest areas

Fuel manufacturer BP has lent its support to the upcoming Outback Truckers television series to show the challenges of being a truck driver and the importance of rest areas.

BP tanker driver Steve Hughes will feature in the five-part TV series that will premiere on October
20 at 6.30pm on 7Mate.

Hughes has been in the industry for more than 25 years and has delivered fuel to BP customers in Far North Queensland for the past six years.

“For BP this was not only an opportunity to support a program which shows first hand how challenging it is to be a truck driver, it also demonstrates the importance our truckstop network plays in providing vital rest breaks for drivers. These facilities offer benefits beyond simply refueling,” BP Marketing Manager Warwick Lloyd says.

BP operates a fleet of more than 260 trucks and trailers, with its drivers completing about 700,000 deliveries to over 6,000 customers in Australia each year.

Hughes travels on average 3,500km per week to some of the most remote locations in Australia.

“Short of having a beer when I want a beer, it’s like being on a camping trip and being paid for it,” he says of truck driving.
