Future in doubt for Newcastle Road Transport Awareness Day

The Newcastle and Hunter Region Road Transport Awareness Day Group is seeking new blood to ensure the event's future

This year is set to mark the 21st year of the annual Newcastle & Hunter Road Transport Awareness Day.

Unfortunately, at the Awareness Day group’s annual general meeting on July 1, it failed to attract a new committee, thus leaving the future of the event in doubt.

According to the group’s treasurer Lynne Jack, who was voted 2014 Industry Woman of the Year at the National Trucking Industry Awards in June, the Awareness Day needs committed, enthusiastic people to form a committee.

“This is your event to promote the industry and offers an opportunity to enjoy a day with industry people.”

Another attempt to form a committee will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at the Hexham Bowling Club at 6pm. The agenda will include to seek nominations and elect a committee, and discuss future options for the event.

During its history, the Newcastle & Hunter Road Transport Awareness Day has raised much needed funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
