Woodberry's Hotel Tudor to host truck show
Kim Forrest, a chef at Hotel Tudor in the Maitland suburb of Woodberry, decided she wanted to make a difference and coming from a family of truckies, she’s done it in the best way possible ... a truck show.
The Hotel Tudor Family Truck Show is all about raising money for Beyond Blue and The Luke Batty Foundation, although Kim also wants to put on a great day of family fun while giving back.
"There will be family fun, a jumping castle, face painting, live music and a big carpark for all the trucks," Kim said.
"We’ve got a few trucks lined up and a number of local truckies have stepped up to the plate.
"We’ll have a ‘best truck of the day’ competition and registration is $20."
The two charities chosen are close to Kim’s heart, having seen first-hand how the isolation and time away from home can make a truckie’s job tough.
"We know a lot of people who suffer from depression and we also know domestic violence is out there.
"A truck driver’s life is a lonely life and people are bagging you the whole time.
"For us Beyond Blue is very close to our heart.
"My brother in law is a truck driver and he suffers from depression.
"We also have a really good friend who shared a truck with my husband, he suffers terribly from PTSD."
