East Gippsland Convoy for Kids gives back

An impressive 215 trucks rolled through town for the East Gippsland Convoy for Kids on Saturday, to raise much-needed funds for children with cancer and give locals a bit of a show.

The third event for the East Gippsland Convoy for Kids brought with it huge roadside crowds and perfect weather, but most importantly in excess of $65,000 was raised for Camp Quality and Angel Flight.

“This is our third event and we are just so surprised once again at the generosity of the transport industry,” said East Gippsland Convoy for Kids Chair James Dixon.

“We raised in excess of $65,000 but we are still working on the final tally.

“We had awesome weather and people were lining the streets cheering!”

The Convoy finished up at Lakes Entrance and the fun-filled day continued with helicopter rides, a truck display, charity auction, jumping castle, food vans and more.

“For a small rural area holding this event, it’s so great to see what’s possible and most of all it really helps kids with cancer,” James said.

Mech-N-Air won lead truck for $10,000, and the main sponsors were the Gippsland Truck Centre and T&G Insurance Brokers who both donated $5,000 each.”

The final donation amount is being tallied and will be announced in the coming weeks.
