Melbourne’s attempts to stage transport industry truck events may have been unrewarding in the past, but venture a little further outside the city to Victoria’s regional areas and it’s a different scenario.

The regional city of Castlemaine plays host to a successful truck show each November, while a little over two hours east towards the entrance to the snowfields, the town of Alexandra holds the big annual Truck, Ute & Rod Show each June.

Alexandra Truck Ute and Rod Show co-founder Gordon Simpson.

In fact, through the ingenuity of its townsfolk, Alexandra is a hive of activity at various times of the year.

Local businessmen Andrew Embling and Gordon Simpson are the two remaining members of the original committee which kicked off the Alexandra Truck, Ute & Rod Snow 23 years ago. Gordon tells Owner//Driver that the 2019 event, held as usual over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, was one of the biggest to date.

“It’s a good one, probably the most trucks we’ve ever had,” he smiles. “Any more and it would get too hard. It would blow out.”

Even more pleasing for Gordon was the participation of interstate trucks, namely Ryan Damasi who arrived from Western Australia with an immaculate 2006 Kenworth T904. The trip across the country proved to be worthwhile as the T904, nicknamed ‘The Hulk’ due to its impressive artwork, picked up the trophy for Best Truck of the Show.

As well as the trophy, Ryan picked up $1,000, courtesy of Royan Truck & Trailer Repairs.

Other attendees featuring in our video include Jordan Connally from Mad Bros Earthmoving, and Brad Weller who brought along his son Braxton.
