HVIA welcomes federal support for major events exhibitors

Announcement comes in lead-up to economy-boosting Brisbane Truck Show

Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) views federal government backing for major events and helping securing the general economic boost that they provide.

With the nation slipping into pandemic-induced recession the hunt is on for as broad a range of initiatives to bolster recovery, and the Business Events Exhibitor Grants program is one such.

“The government sees this as a vital strategy for economic recovery that not only serves the business events sector but presents businesses such as yours with opportunities to connect with and secure new customers,” HVIA chief executive Todd Hacking says.

“We whole-heartedly agree with minister for industry, science and technology Karen Andrews who says the investment will assist businesses with their resilience.”

Under the program, Australian businesses exhibiting at an approved business meeting, convention, conference and incentives event in 2021 will be able to apply for upfront grants to cover up to 50 per cent of their costs, in the range of $10,000-$250,000.

The spending, which has prime minister Scott Morrison’s support, comes from the $1 billion Covid-19 Relief and Recovery Fund.

The announcement comes as HVIA gears up to a Brisbane Truck Show (BTS) that is estimated in recent years to contribute tens of millions of dollars to the state economy.

HVIA notes that the grants will help cover costs associated with exhibiting including the hire of exhibition spaces, the design and manufacture of displays, travel and accommodation.

The federal government points out that some 95 per cent of business events for 2020 is either cancelled or postponed.

“Connecting businesses through trade shows and conferences will help unlock widespread collaboration and boost domestic capability by creating and expanding local supply chains,” Andrews says.
