Federal Government partners with NSW council to upgrade saleyard, with money going to improved lighting and truck wash facility

The Federal Government will partner with the Armidale Dumaresq Council in New South Wales to provide $122,600 to upgrade the Armidale livestock selling complex.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says the funding will be used to upgrade lighting of the loading and unloading areas and to improve the truck wash facility.
Funding for the initiative comes from the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program, which is also focused on rest area and road infrastructure projects specific to the trucking industry.
Albanese says the project with the council represents the first time the program has been used to improve safety at saleyards and upgrade facilities used by the livestock transport sector.
“Upgraded lighting will illuminate the yard, making it safer for trucks to reverse and for workers to load and unload livestock,” he says.
“Upgrading the truck wash will allow larger trucks to use the facility, improve the discharge of waste materials and make the truck wash safer for drivers to use.”
Albanese says funding is being used to upgrade 33 ramps, 27 loading pens as well as lighting in 10 facilities across NSW.
