Garden Grove denies dangerous driving in new dashcam video

Landscape supply company Garden Grove has denied claims of dangerous driving after a dashcam video was uploaded to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook yesterday.

The video shows a Garden Grove truck overtaking a tipper as two lanes merge into one, with the driver of the tipper using the shoulder of the road to let the Garden Grove truck pass.

This incident comes after two dangerous driving videos surfaced earlier in the year, resulting in the dismissal of two drivers.

Grant Johns, who captured the video, claimed the Garden Grove truck was doing “at least 90km in 60km zone,” which the company has firmly denied.

According to Garden Grove spokesman Steve Shearer, the truck’s on-board monitoring systems indicated the speed to be just over 60kmh.

“The Garden Grove truck was not speeding and barely got over 60kph, as recorded by the on-board monitoring systems,” Shearer said.

“The front truck was older, heavily loaded and traveling slower, which is why the dashcam car and the other two cars and the Garden Grove truck gained on it as the intersection approached.”

Shearer explained that the tipper had waved the Garden Grove truck past, because the driver knew he had to turn down a side road up ahead to access a dump and this would be easier if he was behind the Garden Grove truck.

“The front truck clearly moves to the left well before the Garden Grove truck arrives in the scene, because its driver had called the Garden Grove driver through to overtake before the lanes merged.

“The front truck driver was overly cautious and moved further left than necessary, making it appear worse than it was.

“So both truck drivers took the safest option and avoided any risk to road users,” Shearer said.

Shearer made Owner//Driver aware that Garden Grove have investigated the footage and spoken with the driver involved.
