Trucks now have a path through the Queensland/NSW border checkpoint
A dedicated freight lane into Queensland is in force as of October 26 at the Gold Coast border checkpoint.
The Queensland Trucking Association (QTA) highlighted the move that will see freight and logistics operators directed to use a dedicated freight lane when accessing the Gold Coast border checkpoint.
Freight and logistics operators will exit the M1 onto the Gold Coast Highway and remain in the left lane.
All other vehicles will merge into the right lane.
The speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h to allow all vehicles to safely change lanes and get into correct positions.
The National Road Transport Association (NatRoad), which has pushed for such options at borders, hailed the development.

NatRoad CEO Warren Clark says the news was “a long time coming but very welcome”.
“Our members have been grappling with queues of up to two hours to cross the New South Wales-Queensland border in recent days,” Clark says.
“We have made repeated representations on their behalf on the grounds of safety and efficiency.
“A trucks-only lane is going to make life a whole lot easier for heavy vehicle operators and motorists alike.”
