Project to widen Great Eastern Highway from four to six lanes opens to traffic nine months ahead of schedule

The $280 million project to widen the Great Eastern Highway in Western Australia from four to six lanes has opened to traffic nine months ahead of schedule.
The upgrade widened the highway between Kooyong Road and the Tonkin Highway
The Federal Government committed $224 million to the project, with $56 million coming from Western Australia.
“One of our key pledges prior to the last election, this project will ease congestion along the highway by increasing its carrying capacity between Kooyong Road and the Tonkin Highway by some 70 percent, from 50,000 to 85,000 vehicles a day,” federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says.
“These works will complement other improvements to the highway, including the new interchange at the intersection with the Roe Highway which was completed last year.”
