Healthy Heads offers free training courses

Healthy Heads

The improvement of mental health in the trucking industry has struck a huge victory, with extensive training courses provided by the Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds Foundation (Healthy Heads) coming free of charge for a limited time.

The transport, warehousing and logistics sector is Australia’s lowest ranked industry (19th of 19) in terms of workplace mental health, and Healthy Heads’ programs enable individuals and organisations in the sector to better support the mental health of themselves and others around them.

The range of courses on offer have face-to-face and online options and range from two hours of self-paced e-learning to half-day and two-day courses. The wide variety of topics covered means there are courses tailored to everyone in the industry, from truck drivers, to executives, to warehouse and distribution centre teams members, and everyone in between.

Courses cover a range of topics including strategies for recognising warning signs of distress, communicating safely about mental health and suicide, responding with empathy and without judgement, de-escalating anger, knowing the factors that support wellness, and more.

Healthy Heads CEO Naomi Frauenfelder says proper mental health training is essential to improving outcomes in the transport industry.

“Offering training programs for those working within the industry is a proactive approach, giving people the skills, knowledge and experience to look after their own mental health, and support those around them. It is also critical to early intervention and the framework of prevention, protection, and support which informs our approach at Healthy Heads,” Frauenfelder says.

“The training courses have been specifically tailored to people working in the sector to ensure that each course is relatable and effective.”

Director of Ron Crouch Transport Geoff Crouch has encouraged other members of the industry to get on board and participate in the programs.

“As an employer in this industry, I would encourage every other employer to check out the Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds website, look at the various training courses that are available, and see what you can do as far as facilitating training for your people,” Crouch says.

“Make a difference within your organisation, make a real difference in our community.”
