Multi-million dollar upgrade to Bruce Highway will include new overpass to improve travel conditions for trucks

A multi-million dollar upgrade to the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane will come with a new overpass to improve travel conditions for trucks.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says the upgrade of the Pumicestone Road interchange will begin in the coming months and take about 18 months to complete.
“The package of works will build a new, higher (6.5 metre) overpass over the highway, lengthen and straighten the on and off-ramps, improve the intersections with local roads and install pedestrian and cycling facilities,” Albanese says.
“The interchange is becoming increasingly congested and hazardous as the number of vehicles using it rises to more than 50,000 a day. Plus at 4.5 metres, the clearance beneath the overpass is too low, meaning that bigger trucks are currently required to take a detour.”
Albanese says the upgrade is in addition to a planned new interchange at the intersection with Roys Road and Bells Creek Road. Work is slated to begin in the second half of 2013.
