Highways reopen in north NSW as flooding leaves one freight route closed

Some major freight routes have been reopened over the weekend, but the ongoing flooding issue is still impacting heavy vehicle traffic

As the northern coast region of New South Wales continues to grapple with the aftermath of the wild weather that caused flooding late last week, there’s a mixture of both good and bad news for heavy vehicle drivers looking to travel through the area.

Late on Saturday, Live Traffic NSW revealed one lane of the Pacific Highway had reopened in each direction between Coopernook and Purfleet, near Taree.

While motorists were advised to slow down and take care due to crews working in the area, it spelled a positive sign for heavy vehicles in the region.

Now, the Pacific Highway has all lanes open in both directions from Taree South to Coopernook, with speed reduced to 60km/h.

The Illawarra Highway on Macquarie Pass also re-opened under stop/slow traffic control on Sunday with a 40km/h reduced speed limit.
