Holcim partners on ADR approved electric concrete truck trial

Holcim is working with major equipment providers to trial Australia’s first ADR approved 100 per cent electric mixer truck

Sustainable building solutions company Holcim Australia has unveiled a trial of Australia’s first Australian Design Rule (ADR) approved and road registered 100 per cent electric concrete mixer truck.

Partnering with concrete machinery and equipment provider Putzmeister Oceania, the pair will trial the SANY eMixer on local roads.

“At Holcim, our commitment to sustainability is embedded in our core strategy and drives us to continuously improve and innovate,” Holcim Australia and New Zealand head of sustainability Cyril Giraud says.

“Working in partnership with our suppliers to reduce carbon emissions across our transport and logistics can go a long way in helping us reach our sustainability goals.”

The milestone electric concrete mixer truck comes courtesy of Putzmeister Oceania’s decision to partner with experts at Cesco Australia to manufacture the locally-made mixer structure on the SANY SY408P electric chassis. The outcome is a locally manufactured but globally developed 100 per cent electric battery-powered mixer truck.

With a 350kWh CATL battery at its core, the new model is set to be trialled around Australia.

“The performance of the truck and the efficiency of the battery will be tested under the unique operating constraints of ready-mix concrete distribution in metro and urban environments,” Holcim regional logistics manager Kevin Peet says.

The model can be fully charged overnight with a 30kW charger or rapidly charged in under three hours, with the electric mixer truck ready to reduce noise levels while improving mileage and efficiency.

“The eMixer typically has lower operating costs than its diesel counterparts,” SANY concrete and road machinery sales manager William Liang says.

“It’s more energy efficient and requires less maintenance, which could result in significant cost savings over the vehicle’s lifetime. This not only makes it a smart financial choice but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability and innovation in the construction industry.”

Holcim has become the first company to trial the SANY eMixer in Australia as the electric 8 x 4 mixer reaches a new local milestone.
