The number of truckstops that have closed or are facing closure is impacting heavily on the road transport industry.

Since the doors began closing on truckstops around the country due to the takeover of many retail fuel businesses by the supermarket chains, the situation along some highways when it comes to places to put the nosebag on and rest and show has become a problem.

Fortunately, some of the restaurants located within fuel outlets have reopened under arrangements with the supermarkets.

Those that have are enjoying a new lease on life and most report an increase in custom from truckies. Long-serving staff have also returned to the fold.

All is not lost.

And some of the tried and proven eateries continue to deliver unparalleled service to truckies. These people deserve a mention and accolades for the food and service they provide.

With this in mind, Owner//Driver is proud to launch the Best Australian Truckstop Award, which will encourage and recognise excellence in serving the nation’s truck drivers.

If you have got a favourite (or two), send your nominations to Owner//Driver, either via email (greg.bush@psamedia.com.au) or through snail mail at PO Box 312, Fortitude Valley, Qld 4006.

Nominations close Friday, February 28 with the winner to be announced in the March edition of Owner//Driver.
