Trucking industry icon Alan Scott has died aged 85.
Scott, who began his career in the road transport industry in the 1950s, passed away today.
Australian Trucking Association (ATA) Chairman Trevor Martyn says Scott was a giant figure in Australian trucking and would be missed with great sadness.
“Allan was an all-time, wonderful man. He built up his business, the Scott Group of Companies, into the largest privately owned company in South Australia,” Martyn says.
“He was the major shareholder and former chairman of the K&S Corporation, a major national logistics company.”
Martyn says Scott inspired his managers to high standards of excellence and excelled at running an efficient business.
“But Allan wasn’t just about business. He was a complete philanthropist, and a major supporter of the Port Adelaide Football Club, the South Australian Jockey Club, and the University of South Australia,” Martyn says.
Scott’s interests also extended to the media, where he owned newspapers in his home state of South Australia.
Throughout his career in the trucking industry, Scott received a number of recognitions, such as the Order of Australia and the Medal of the Order of Australia.
The trucking magnate was inducted into the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in 2002.
Scott was also the founder director of the ATA’s Trust Fund and a major contributor to the peak trucking body.
Scott is survived by his wife and four children.
“On behalf of the trucking industry, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to Allan’s wife, Grace, and his children, Zena, Ray, Julie and Robyn,” Martyn says.
