As much as nine new toilet facilities will be installed in rest areas across Queensland’s south west this year, as the State Government works to reduce driver fatigue.
Minister for Main Roads Warren Pitt says the facilities will encourage heavy vehicle drivers to stop and rest and improve their comfort along freight routes.
The nine new facilities will be located at major stopping places, including the Carnarvon, Warrego, Landsborough and Balonne highways and Diamantina Developmental Road west of Charleville.
“The eco-friendly unisex toilets feature solar lighting, water tanks, hand basins and are also self-composting,” Pitt says.
The decision to install new facilities follows an $800,000 investment in eight rest areas along the Carnarvon Highway last year.
