Online vehicle rego set to save operators time, money

Trucking industry welcomes function allowing truck owners to renew vehicle registrations online

New South Wales heavy vehicle operators will be able to pile on the hours on the road and in the office with the announcement registration can now be renewed online instead of in a line.

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) says all drivers wishing to use the online service must ensure they are in possession of an electronic green slip and an electronic heavy vehicle inspection report if it is required.

The move initiated by NSW Minister for Roads Michael Daley has been welcomed by industry groups who say the process will save the industry valuable time and money.

NatRoad President Rob McIntosh says it is a practical decision to implement the scheme.

“Many hard-working men and women in our industry, particularly the owner-operators, don’t have time to spend registering their vehicle in person at the RTA,” McIntosh says.

Minster Daley says drivers will still be able to claim on concessions.

“Drivers can also make an electronic declaration for a concession on registration fees, if they have valid concession card,” he says.

In light of the new service, Daley made it clear drivers still needed to follow the same rules that had always been in place, including Heavy Vehicle Inspection Scheme (HVIS) bookings.

“Heavy vehicle inspection bookings can be made online, up to three months in advance,” Daley says.

Registration payments or bookings for HVIS inspections can be made on the RTA website.
