Victorian roads still closed due to bushfires

Road closures are still widespread as a result of Victoria's recent bushfires

Road closures are still widespread as a result of Victoria’s recent bushfires.

A spokesperson for Vic Roads says the agency is working closely with police and fire authorities to reopen roads but debris and “extensive damage” to infrastructure means certain routes may be closed for “some time”.

“Before a road can be opened, VicRoads crews need to undertake emergency repairs to surfaces and line-marking, clear away trees and other debris, remove unstable trees from the side of the road and undertake a full safety assessment,” the spokesperson says.

“VicRoads asks people to be patient and obey road closures while this work is underway”.

Maroondah Highway at Black Spur is now open but roads are closed near Lysterfield Park and in areas ravaged by fires such as Kinglake and Marysville.

A full list of closed roads is available on the VicRoads website or by calling VicRoads Traffic Management Centre on 13 11 70 (24 hours).
