Last stand for transporter GR George

Queensland trucking operator GR George has been consigned to history, as 43 of its prime movers and over 50 trailers were auctioned in Brisbane today.

The company, which went into liquidation at the beginning of the year, was forced to sell off the vast majority of its assets to pay back creditors.

But buyers took advantage of the company’s plight, swarming to today’s auction which was held by Grays Auctions.

Grays’ Bill Cotter, who organised the event, says he was impressed by the turnout.

“We have had a mixture of clients here today, including a large number of smaller operators,” he says.

“There are a couple of people who are buying a few [trucks] and the prices we are fetching are within expectations”.

There were 125 lots in total, which included 2007-model Volvo prime movers and trailers manufactured by companies such as Peki and Krueger.

GR George grew from a small company operating only in Brisbane to a country-wide operator running routes for corporations such as Woolworths.

The company will now be deregistered.
