Award overhaul set to change industry landscape

Most significant stage in award modernisation, spanning 39 industries, released by Industrial Relations Commission

The most significant stage in award modernisation awards, spanning 39 industries and occupations, has been released by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

Exposure drafts for Stage 3 of the Federal Government’s answer to failed work choices sets out 50 draft awards, detailing information on wages, allowances, accident pay, superannuation, annual leave, overtime and public holidays.

Consultations will be conducted by a Full Bench for two weeks between June 22 and July 3, whereby interested parties are invited to lodge their views in writing.

A finalised set of modern awards will then be completed by December 31, before implementation commences on January 1, 2010.

Award modernisation is carried out by the Commission subject to the terms of the Workplace Relations Act 1996, and in accordance with a request from the Minister of Employment and Workplace Relations.
