Kalari Portland driver Ray Smith, known as 'Midge' among his trucking friends, passed away on April 21 after a long battle with cancer.
Long time K&S Freighters and Kalara Portland driver Ray ‘Midge’ Smith passed away at Heywood, Victoria on April 21 this year following a long battle with cancer. He was 56.
Midge drove for K&S Freighters, Mt Gambier, for many years followed by 21 years at Kalari Portland, the last seven years as Operations Manager of the Tautliner division.
Midge requested to do his final trip aboard a company Aerodyne, which was happily provided by the company and named in his honour.
Stuart Clark, also of Kalari, says Midge will be sadly missed by all, especially for his familiar words: “There are two types of people, Collingwood supporters and those who want to be Collingwood supporters”.
