Scania appoints Roger McCarthy as its new managing director
By Gary Worrall
Following the redeployment of current managing director Jan Killstrom back to Sweden, Scania has appointed recently arrived sales and marketing director Roger McCarthy to take over from Killstrom on July 1.
While McCarthy will be the fourth managing director for the Australian operation in two years, he has spent 26 years with Scania in his native UK, rising to the position of sales director, responsible for Scania’s largest single market.
Initially, McCarthy will handle the dual responsibilities of sales and marketing as well as the managing director’s role, however it is unclear how long this arrangement will remain in place.
Having worked with Killstrom for the last three months, McCarthy helped shape the future plans for the sales and marketing divisions, and is confident this will aid in a seamless transition of power.
“Under Jan’s leadership, Scania has devised a strategy for growth not only in volume but also market share, the first fruits of which are now visible,” MCarthy says.
“Our strategy enhances all aspects of the business, from vehicle offerings to after sales products and the growth of conveniently located service points.”
With the bus division competing strongly in its sectors, McCarthy will be kept busy growing the truck side of the operation, particularly in the current depressed market.
“I am confident Scania is well positioned for growth in Australia and I thank Jan for sowing the seeds for this. He will be missed in Australia but our loss is Sweden’s gain.”
