Union calls for donations for slain truck driver

TWU calls on industry to donate funds to the family of a truck driver killed today in NSW

The Transport Workers Union has called on the industry to donate funds to the family of a truck driver killed in NSW this morning.

Owner-driver Bob Knight was shot while driving past a shootout in Milperra, which police believed involved up to six people.

“Last night’s incident was just a total tragedy with a man who was just doing his job killed heading down the road,” TWU NSW Secretary Wayne Forno says.

“Being a long-distance driver is one of the toughest jobs around and there are far too many deaths in our industry as it is, but this morning’s act just makes me feel outraged.”

The union was prompted to seek donations after receiving calls from TWU members and the public seeking to offer assistance.

After speaking to Knight’s workmates, Forno says the TWU will collect money on his behalf and pass any donations to the family.

“This is one time like this the whole industry, including employers and clients, need to stand together and assist,” Forno says.
