Laws to fast-track intrastructure delivery in Vic

New laws to speed up the delivery of Victorian transport projects by slashing development time

New laws will speed up the delivery of future transport projects by slashing development time, the Victorian Government says.

The Brumby Government has introduced legislation to State Parliament will reduce the time required to plan, approve and deliver new projects.

According to Victorian Roads Minister Tim Pallas, the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Bill will see projects begin up to a year earlier than usual though a "one-stop shop" planning and approvals process, saving tax payers money in the process.

"We are acting to fast-track the planning and delivery of major transport projects, without compromising existing checks and balances or reducing opportunities for public consultation," Pallas says.

"Even on conservative estimates, the benefits of bringing forward the larger major transport projects in the Victorian Transport Plan would amount to tens of millions of dollars in savings."
