Trucks banned from bypass as upgrades begin

Trucks banned from using Harwood Bridge on Yamba Road for up to one year due to maintenance works

Trucks in NSW will be banned from using Harwood Bridge on Yamba Road for up to one year due to maintenance.

Vehicles higher than 4.1 metres will not be able to access the bypass on the south side of the bridge from this Thursday, with the RTA saying diversions will be put in place.

“The RTA requires river access for the maintenance work and will be using part of the side-track as a work compound for the project,” a statement from the road authority says.

“Vehicles higher than 4.1 metres travelling between Yamba and the Pacific Highway which usually go under Harwood Bridge will need to travel along South Bank Road and Gardiner Road to Townsend and then join the Pacific Highway at Ferry Park.”

The RTA intended to use the northern side of the river but was ordered to use the southern side after the Clarence Valley Council rejected the government department’s proposal.
