Investigations continue into fatal accident on the Newell Highway which also left a truck driver in shock

Investigations are continuing into a fatal accident on the Newell Highway which also left a truck driver suffering from shock.

Police are still looking at what caused a collision between a north-bound car and a south-bound semi-trailer on the highway about 4pm yesterday.

The 80-year-old driver of the sedan died as a result of the accident which happened at Boggabilla in northern New South Wales. The man’s dog which was in the car also died.

The 59-year-old truckie was treated at the scene for shock, while police closed the highway for more than five hours due to the large amount of diesel which had been spilt on the road.

“Emergency services from Queensland and New South Wales attended the crash scene to render assistance,” a police statement reads.
