Truck driver dead in Princes Freeway smash

Truck driver killed and Princes Highway closed after semi-trailer slams into parked truck

September 22, 2009

A truck driver has died and a section of the Princes Highway has been closed after a semi-trailer hit a stationary truck 70 kilometres south east of Melbourne.

The accident occurred about 5:30 this morning at Nar Nar Goon when the driver hit the rear of a parked Kenworth truck loaded with timber.

The 38-year-old driver of the stationary semi-trailer was in the rig resting at the time but was not injured.

Police say the driver of the moving truck died at the scene and emergency services are still trying to extract his body from the wreckage.

The accident has blocked up the Princess Freeway eastbound and traffic is being diverted along Bessie Creek Road until further notice.

Police are still unsure of the identity of the deceased driver, but confirmed the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) were at the scene.
