National jobless rate falls to 5.7pc in September

Australia's unemployment figures saw a fall of 0.1 pp to 5.7 percent over September

There was a surprising shift in unemployment figures over September, with the national rate falling 0.1 percentage points to 5.7 percent.

Data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows after three months of a stable 5.8 percent unemployment rate, Australia is finally turning the corner.

The total number of employed persons increased by 40,600 to over 10.8 million.

Full-time employment increased by 35,400 to 7.6 million while part-time employment rose by 5,200 to 3.2 million.

In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment decreased by 3,800 to 658,600.

The number of people looking for full-time work increased by 9,500 to 497,400, and the number of people looking for part-time work decreased by 13,300 to 161,200.

The male unemployment rate decreased 0.1 point to 5.8 percent, and the female unemployment rate remained at 5.6 percent.

Finally, figures show the participation rate increased 0.1 point to 65.2 percent.
