New advisory committee of transport operators to set general freight agenda for the VTA
October 14, 2009
A new advisory committee of transport operators will set the general freight agenda for the Victorian Transport Association (VTA), as it strives to be the “preeminent multi-modal employer organisation” in Australia.
VTA CEO Philip Lovel calls the election of the general freight committee “historic” and says it will be the “engine-room of member engagement” in setting policy direction for the group.
Border Express manager Peter Anderson will chair the new-look group, his fifth term heading the general freight division, with Angela Murphy from Murphy Transport re-elected vice-chair.
Lovel says the organisation will rely on the committee to provide active advice and feedback across a broad issues spectrum of issues to shape the future of the freight and logistics industry.
“Peter [Anderson] has displayed outstanding long-term commitment to the VTA, while Angela’s re-election as Vice-Chair cements her place as one of the leading young women in the freight transport and logistics industry in this country,” Lovel says.
VTA Life Member Lou Arthur did not stand for re-election, retiring after 37 years representing the industry at the VTA and its predecessors. But the Arthur name will still be represented, with nephew Vincent elected onto the committee for the first time.
“The history of VTA representation by L. Arthur Pty. Ltd. dates back to the 1930s, so we are extremely pleased to welcome Vincent to the committee,” Lovel says.
