Albo charts long-term road plan

Rudd Government plans new long-term road corridor strategy west of Sydney's city centre

November 9, 2009

A long-term strategic corridor plan will be developed for the Bells Line of Road in New South Wales to meet demand west of Sydney’s city centre, Minister for Infrastructure Anthony Albanese says.

The Government is planning to begin work immediately, and Albanese says it will complement other projects on the Great Western Highway between Penrith and Lithgow to improve safety and efficiency.

"While the latest traffic and population growth data reveals that there is no current need for the road to receive a major reconstruction, planning for the longer term must start now," Albanese says.

He says the joint government initiative with NSW is expected to take 18 months to complete and will follow community and stakeholder consultation.
