Peak Downs Highway upgrades completed

Work on new overtaking lanes on Peak Downs Highway in Queensland has finished

November 2, 2009

Newly constructed overtaking lines on the Peak Downs Highway will improve driving conditions for truck drivers travelling between Mackay and the Bowen Basin coalfields, the Queensland Government says.

Queensland Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace says the two overtaking lanes located between Elvins Road and Burgress Lane are a welcome addition to the road network which is used by 4000 vehicles a day- 14 percent of which are heavy vehicles.

"These overtaking lanes, one northbound and one south bound, will provide motorists and heavy vehicle operators with additional opportunities to overtake slow moving vehicles," Wallace says.

The completion of these works on the highway follow widening works between Cut Creek and Retreat which were completed in September.
