November 23, 2009

Victorian police are appealing for help after a multiple vehicle collision on the Eastern Highway forced a vehicle beneath a truck and seriously injured one man.

The incident happened about 10pm Saturday near Blackburn Road when a tray truck hit the back of taxi.

The drivers of the two vehicles were in the left emergency lane when a second taxi crashed into the rear of the truck.

“A further five vehicles then collided into the rear of the taxi, forcing the vehicle underneath the truck,” a police statement reads.

Police say the driver of the second taxi was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital to be treated for his injuries, while his passenger was not hurt.

“The occupants of the five vehicles that hit the back of the taxi suffered minor injuries,” the police statement says.

The truck driver and the driver of the first taxi were not injured.
“Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to help understand how the incident occurred,” the police statement says.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
