Police in New South Wales are searching for a truck driver they say might hold vital information about a fatal crash last week.

A car towing a trailer on the Princes Highway at Gerringong jack-knifed on November 6, striking an oncoming van and killing its 73-year-old female passenger.

Officers from the Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit say a truck was travelling in front of the van prior to the accident.

"Officers have stressed that vehicle was not involved in the collision but the driver might be able to provide police with vital information," a police statement reads.

The highway was blocked for several hours while police investigated the incident and interviews and inquiries are still ongoing.

Police will prepare a coroner’s report following investigations.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
