WA may try again for truck turnaround bays

WA may try again for federal funding of truck turnaround bays after original submission was denied

November 27, 2009

Main Roads Western Australia has confirmed it is considering putting a second submission to the Federal Government for truck turnaround bays on the Great Eastern Highway.

The confirmation comes after a previous submission was knocked back last year.

The designation of truck turnaround bays was a key recommendation made by the Department of Environment and Conservation’s report into the the Boorabbin bushfire in 2007 which killed three truck drivers.

Main Roads WA Acting Commissioner Des Snook says the submission is part of a planned $11.6 million in improvement works throughout the State, with half the funds being sought from the Federal Government.
